What is Auto Detailing?

The polishing, waxing and cleaning of an automobile on the inside as well as the outside is called auto detailing. The auto detailing should be thorough enough to consider the automobile of show quality when the work is done. There are at least a couple of reasons why people have such intense car cleaning done and that is to satisfy themselves or to show the car. To bring your car to an auto show its appearance has to be flawless. Auto detailing, if done correctly, can preserve the car thereby giving it a longer life. It also increases the value of the car in the event of a sale.

Professional detailers are usually the ones that do the best job. Many are franchise operations while others are independent ones that work out of their garages, vacant parking lots, or other unused places and do not have permanent business addresses. There are bout fifty thousand of them in the United States however; this kind of work is not exclusive to the United States. In the United Kingdom auto detailers are known as “car valets” and the work they do is known as “car or auto valeting.”

There are many auto detailing supplies necessary to do the job. For the exterior, you have to make the paint shine, the chrome trim shine, the windows should be clean and scratches should be removed, and the wheels and tires should also be cleaned to look as if they were new. The supplies used by auto detailers include: ordinary detergents, specific detail clay, a variety of waxes and polishes, special cloths and applicators made of various fibers and consistencies.

There are three things that auto detailers do when detailing an automobile and that is to clean, polish and protect the automobile. It has to be cleaned of all the clinging dirt and debris such as bug carcasses that have adhered to the car, heavy dirt and tar and all other contaminants that have been picked up over time and may harm the exterior of the car. A thorough cleaning ensures that all of the clinging dirt and droppings are cleaned and there is no sign of them ever being there. Auto detailing is beyond a simple washing.

Although there is not as much to clean when auto detailing the interior, it is just as precise. They concentrate on the cleaning of the upholstery, carpeting and in particular the passenger side of the car. Vacuuming is a standard procedure in detailing the interior. Much of the interior is steam cleaned. A liquid cleaner and various brushes are used to remove stains from carpeting and upholstery and the non porous surfaces are polished.

Body work such as painting the car, mechanical work on the car and upholstery repair is not included as part of auto detailing. Although, some will do some engine detailing such as steam cleaning or pressure cleaning, degreasing and using degreasers to clean beneath the hood.

How to Export Truck Parts to Africa

Over the last decade, exporting has grown into a multi-billion dollar industry. Technological advancement in various areas of logistics has made it easy for businesses of all sizes to get involved in the exporting business.

Africa is largely a developing continent, and due to its size and geography it relies extensively on heavy duty machinery such as trucks to haul large loads of goods from one part of the country to another. As the African terrain can be very rough and rugged, trucks are known to breakdown quite often, and this necessitates a large volume of exports of truck spares and replacements to the continent.

While some African truck repair shops carry all the necessary truck parts to get the truck up and running, sometimes, the parts are not in stock and need to be imported from another country. Below are two ways that we export truck parts to Africa with relative ease. I say relative, because some regions and shipments have been fraught with problems, so we will also cover some of the potential problems you may encounter when exporting to Africa.

Air Freight

Technological advancements and the declining cost of air transport have allowed exporters of truck parts to easily send the ordered parts from one country to another within a matter of days. Buyers need not wait for weeks on end to get the parts they require, they can simply ask the seller to send the parts via air and receive them in 3 or 4 days.

While using air freight as a primary mode of transportation is a good way to export, it is also a very expensive one, particularly as compared to using land and sea freight. Sending something via air freight can run up hundreds, if not thousands of dollars in shipping costs. The general rule of thumb with air shipment is the heavier and more fragile the item, the more it will cost to ship. Since most truck parts are quite heavy, be prepared to pay a significant amount of money to send the part via air.

As the exporter, you are always able to charge the buyer for the air shipment; however, be sure that they are given the option of having the part sent via an alternative method.

Ship Cargo

Exporting goods via the sea is perhaps one of the oldest modes of international transportation. Shipping cargo can be dated back at least several centuries. It is because of ship routes established back in history that we are able to so easily navigate the seas.

Most exporters send very heavy truck parts via ship cargo. Ship cargo is also used if there are a number of truck parts being exported (in bulk). Sending truck parts via ship cargo is usually less expensive than sending it via air cargo, however; it does have its disadvantages.

While technological advancements in the field of logistics have enabled sea shipment companies to purchase fuel powered ships to transport goods, the shipments can still take a great deal of time to reach their destination. Depending on the country of export, a shipment via the sea can take anywhere between a week and three weeks to arrive at its destination.

Sending truck parts via ship cargo can also increase custom costs. As Africa is still a developing country, there can be a lot of customs issues at its ports, as well as corruption, which can lead to expectations of bribery, among other issues: The truck parts may sit at the docks awaiting clearance for days if the process is not sped up with a little “persuasion”. For this reason I would try to choose your destination, and indeed entire shipping route, carefully when you are making arrangements to export to Africa, as some countries are more prone to corruption than others.

There is also the issue of instability, be it social, economic or ethnic strife and conflict that can affect the cost of exporting to a given country, and this should be considered carefully. Bad social conditions or conflict can freeze cargoes in place, incur unforeseen costs, slow supply lines, or even cause cargoes to ‘disappear.’ For this reason, try to plot an export route through stable countries wherever possible.

These are just a few of the issues we have come across when exporting truck parts to Africa, and these are equally valid concerns when exporting anything to the African continent.

Auto Detailing – Save Your Knees and Find a Knee Pad Solution

A couple of years ago, I talked to a gentleman at Starbucks who was on disability. He had worked for a carpet installation company and had blown out his knees, both of them and could hardly walk, and one could not be repaired, although they tried by putting in some titanium. He admitted it did help for a while, but his knee was simply to tore up inside. You see, those that install carpets often use their knees to help pound the nails in the baseboard during installations as he explained it to me. Interestingly enough, I understand how important it is to save your knees because previously I was a tack star and later had raced street motorcycles, and also had done quite a bit of auto detailing. Okay so let’s talk shall we?

If you are in the auto detailing business you will be on your knees quite a bit cleaning wheels, under carriages, and putting on wax of vehicles which are very low to the ground, like most exotic sports cars. This means you have to get down and dirty, but in doing so you will be working in a parking lot if you are doing mobile detailing with gravel around, or you will be working on a cement floor inside of an auto detailing shop, those are very hard surfaces, and they can be quite challenging if you are in that position on your knees for long periods of time.

There are several auto detailing catalogs which have very small cushioned mats which are between six and 8 inches wide and 2 feet long with a handle on them, on one end. These work perfectly, and they are an ideal solution for an auto detailer. Best of all you can clip them to a work cart using a carabiner that rock climbers use. Another strategy is to get ahold of the type of knee pads that soccer players use from a sports store. Although they are not as good, they will save your knees. If you are an auto detailer you may put one on only one knee, and kneel down on that each time. Every few days you might wear it on the other knee, so you are not favoring one leg over the other. Always buy the fabric washable kind.

It’s amazing how simple things and proper ergonomic procedures can help you in your auto detailing this. If you are detailing aircraft, especially light aircraft, or small business jets, it is often very hard to clean the underbelly, or the bottom of the wings with one knee on the ground, either on the flight line or in a hangar on the hangar floor. Protect your knees so you don’t have to become a disabled auto detailer. Please consider all this and think on it.

Your Best Lambskin Leather Wear

Are you one of those slightly unfortunate people living in a geographic location close to the poles? If so then you are one of those who get extremely pleased on those days of the year when there is just about a bit of sun heat around, and you spend the rest of the year thinking how to keep yourself warm yet sexy.

The biggest problem which people like you face, if they are fashion- conscious, is with their dress. In the intense cold they don’t have much of a choice when it comes to dressing. However all is not that gloomy. If you are fashion conscious and like millions of the people around want to look good then you would soon turn your warm clothes into a style statement. You see nobody made a rule that warm clothes cannot be stylist and sexy.

Talking about warm clothes the first thing which comes to anybody’s mind is leather. If you are used to wearing lambskin leather then there is nothing more left for us to tell you. However if you are unaccustomed to wearing this fine category of clothing then there is much that you have lost on. Leather is very warm and soft. It is also amazingly sexy. Yes. Leather wear is very sexy. It doesn’t matter how your shape is, when you wear leather your body automatically get a very firm and curvy shape. There is an accentuation which your body gets under leather. Added to that leather is shiny. This means that you will not look dull no matter how colorless the rest of your dresses are.

If you are having genuine leather garments then there is need for you to take care of it. Followings are few ways of doing so.

o Polish: yes, this is the most important part you need to religiously do in order to keep your leather wear in good shape. This is what most people don’t do. But you must understand that if you don’t polish your leather it will not get any moisture and lose its shine very soon!!

o Watch out: when buying the polish make sure that you are not taking a polish which has mineral or petroleum in it and above all avoid polishes with coloring agents. Polishes are important for your leather but you must choose that right one else you will only be left with patchy stains of those expensive leather wears. Also try to avoid heavy and greasy polishes since they too are not good for your leather wear.

o No wax and silicon please: this is another thing which you will have to stay away from if you want keep that leather wear of yours in good shape. Animal fats such as mink oil etc. can be used but they have their own disadvantage. What is that? Well these oils tend to clog the pores of the leather and not just that, they also make the color of the leather a lot darker. So you will find yourself flaunting new colors of the same dress everyday!!

o Stay away from moisture: like all the above mentioned things, moisture too is not good for your leather wear. So better stay away from snow and rain. And if you by chance get them on your leather then make immediate efforts to dry the dress completely unless you want ugly patches on your expensive lovely leather wear!!

Now you are quite educated about taking care of leather wear. So what are you waiting for? Better make up for the neglect you have subjected your leather wear to for all these years.
